Trail hunting consultation guidance

As part of the government’s world-leading Animal Welfare Strategy, announced in December, DEFRA has launched a consultation on banning trail hunting which closes on 18 June. A ban on trail hunting will deliver the party’s pledge to end this practice, as committed to in the 2024 Labour Party Manifesto.

The government is interested in responses from organisations and members of the public. Every consultation response from animal advocates makes it more likely that wild animals will be protected from being illegally chased, harmed and killed under the smokescreen that trail hunting provides.

How to respond to the trail hunting consultation

You can respond to the consultation on trail hunting here.

To help make it easy to contribute to the consultation, the League Against Cruel Sports has put together guidance on responding. It should only take about ten minutes to respond to the consultation.

While individual responses are much better, if you do not have time to complete a personalised submission, you can use the League Against Cruel Sport’s pre-written submission telling DEFRA you support a ban on trail hunting. It will only take 3 minutes!

With your help, we can ensure that all wild animals are treated with respect, and that they are protected from suffering, cruelty, pain and distress, as is the aspiration of the government’s Animal Welfare Strategy.
